About Us
Black in Computer Science aims to build and strengthen the growing community of Black students studying or interested in Computer Science here at Stanford. We hope to facilitate the educational and professional development of Black Stanford students in tech and help combat the issues they face in the tech industry. At Black in CS we strive to create an inclusive and welcoming community by hosting programming centering the black experience in Computer Science while equipping students with the tools, resources, and networks to succeed in their fields.

Black Lair
Black Lair is an academic mentorship program for students in CS106A and CS106B. Black Lair runs multiple help sessions per week where students can come in with bugs, questions, or seeking general guidance. With 20 amazing course helpers, 48 quarterly sessions, and 300 students served annually, Black Lair works to foster a community of mentorship, collaboration, and inclusivity within the Black CS community.
CS Career Prep
Black in CS hosts a range of career-centered programming. This programming serves to help make students equipped for interviews, network opportunities and the barriers students may face in the tech industry. Career Prep events include Open Gym coding interview prep, company tours, and networking panels with black tech employees.

AfroTech Conference
AfroTech is an annual conference held in Oakland, California that features over 60 professional speakers and hosts over 10,000 attendees that brings together Black undergraduate and graduate computer scientists, venture capitalists, recruiters, technologists, and culture enthusiasts from all over the world. AfroTech will be held virtually in 2021.

CURIS Undergraduate Research Fellowship
CURIS is the undergraduate research program of Stanford's Computer Science Department. Each summer, 100+ undergraduates conduct and participate in computer science research advised and mentored by faculty and Ph.D. students.
CURIS Fellowships provide guaranteed funding for undergraduates to participate in summer research. A Fellowship student's stipend is paid for by the department. A student awarded a CURIS fellowship is responsible for finding a research project to work on, but does not go through the matching process of standard CURIS participation. Students receiving Fellowships are encouraged to use the CURIS project listings to find interesting projects and reach out to the corresponding faculty and Ph.D. students.
